🎨 The Latest From My Blog! Lifting Watercolor and New Website!

Hello Fellow Artist! 🌻

I’m so happy the heat wave broke, but I got a lot done staying indoors over the past few weeks!

One task I can finally share is that my new and improved website is now live! 🎉

What’s new? You’ll find my curated collection of original watercolor paintings, plus (back by popular demand) my limited edition giclée prints—The shop is filled with my hand-picked favorites, and I'm adding to the collection almost every day! I'm on a painting streak! 🖌️

Right now, I'm totally into storytelling through my art. Each painting is created with love, of course, but like my 'Summer Day' painting, my goal is to evoke a memory or a feeling when you're viewing an art piece of mine.

That way, when you see it every day in your home or office, it will put a smile on your face and some happiness in your heart.

To celebrate, and to offer you some happiness, I’m offering you 20% off any original or print order through Sunday! 👏

Just use code JOY20 at checkout and gift yourself or someone you love a special piece of art for a special place in your home or office. View my collections here: mollysfineart.com

From My Studio: A Quick Watercolor Tip 🖌️

🤓 I often notice my students are hesitant to paint the dark colors or values with their watercolors, fearing they won't be able to correct it.

Well, have no fear, fellow artist! There's always a way to fix your painting!

This is a painting I'm currently working on. You can probably tell that the wood post is really dark; all the same color which makes it look flat. So I need to lighten one side to give it dimension.

Below are some images of the fix. I used a clean, damp brush and paper towel. First, I applied the wet brush to the area I wanted to lighten, using a single long stroke. Before I applied another stroke, I wiped the excess paint on the paper towel, dipped my brush in clean water, and then lifted the paint again until I was happy with the results. I also blotted the area with my lint-free paper towel while it was still wet.

📣 Important note: Remember that watercolors dry lighter, so it's best to lift a little at first, let it dry, then, if you need to do more, go for it!

Notice the difference in the color and value of the wood in the last photo. Much better! Lots more to go though!

Thanks so much for being part of my creative community. I love sharing my journey with you, I hope it helps (even a little bit) your own journey in art. 🎨 Molly'sFineArt.com

Mollys Fine Art Oil Painting Tutorial

White Roses in Oils, I had lots of fun experimenting with the background! Hello Fellow Artists! Something has been quietly growing in my studio these past few weeks. 🖌️ It’s sitting right next to my watercolor palette… but slowly taking over...it's oil paints! When I was a teenager, I had the best art instructor. I had never painted before—just drawing and a bit of pastels. But my instructor didn’t care, he threw me right into oils! He even took us out into the parking lot to paint the back...

"April Showers" Mollys Fine Art Watercolor Tutorial

"April Showers" Molly's Fine Art. My largest painting yet! Hello Fellow Artist! Yay! I just finished the largest watercolor I’ve ever painted! And I almost didn't finish it. 😳 For months, it was sitting on a chair, out of the way of the main part of my studio, halfway finished. And when I would see it, I would say to myself, "someday..." Then, thankfully, there was a call for art at my local art gallery, the theme was Spring. I glanced at the half-finished painting that had been waiting...
