🎨 3 Simple Watercolor Tips:

1. Using too much water

It’s easy to think watercolor = lots of water.
But most beginners over-dilute their paint, which leads to pale, streaky results.
A balanced mix of water to pigment gives beautiful, rich colors.
​👉Pro Tip: I like to start with a thick (creamy) puddle of color and then add water as I need it!

2. Skip student-grade paper — use 140lb cold-pressed for better results

The biggest beginner frustration usually comes from the paper, not the skill level.
Thin or student-grade paper buckles and the paper does not hold water very well.
Using 100% cotton watercolor paper, 140lb helps your paint absorb properly and makes blending so much easier.

3. Don’t forget to play!

Before I paint anything, I swatch colors, mix new combinations, and test colors I want to use for my palette.
🖌 This simple ritual will help you loosen up, understand your paints better, and get into a creative mood!
